LOS CABOS

Almost nothing is known about Los Cabos history prior to 1537. This is when one of Hernan Cortez´s man named Francisco de Ulloa discovered the place. The Conquistador used the place a shelter in the trade route through the Pacific Ocean. But Pirates were the most frequent visitors as they used the place as a hidding spot to track and attack the Spanish galleons cruising these waters. In 1730 San Jose del Cabo was founded by a Jesuit group near San Jose river.
The area was a major fishing shore in the following centuries, due to an incredibly abundant marine life, from whales to tropical fish. The first development appears just after World War II, when a few rich families started building their vacation houses on the coves of the peninsula. But the tourist boom only started a few year ago with the construction of major hotels and the International airport. The area between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is undergoing a huge development nowadays.
